The car battery is the most underrated piece of equipment in your car. That little black box under the hood serves as a storage device for the electricity produced from an internal chemical reaction. This stored energy powers the starter motor, ignition system, and fuel system. Once the motor is running though, the alternator takes over to supply the electricity needed for all the other vehicle systems, as well as recharging the battery at the same time. Generally, a good quality car battery will last between four to seven years.

Unfortunately, it’s easy to forget about the battery. Many drivers don’t give it much thought until all of a sudden their car won’t start and they are sitting in the driveway waiting for a car battery replacement. A weak battery can make the alternator work too hard to operate the auto electrical system.

Just what are the signs of a dying car battery, you ask? Here are some indicators that your battery may be dying:

  • Car won’t start. As the battery ages, the cranking amps become weaker and weaker over time, just like a smartphone battery. Eventually, it will become impossible for the battery to start your car.
  • Battery warning light. If the battery warning light comes on while you’re driving, have it checked out as soon as possible. Once you stop your car, you may not be able to start again until you get a car battery replacement.
  • Electrical components and accessories don’t work. When a battery starts to die, the voltage it produces drops, leading to malfunction of the other electrical components in your car, such as power windows, door locks, lights, GPS, and more.

Remember: Every battery will die eventually so don’t wait for your battery to go completely dead! The key to prolonging the life of your battery is frequent inspections and maintenance.

Wondering what are the signs of a dying car battery? Contact our ASE-certified technicians at Rebel Automotive for more information about a car battery replacement and to schedule an appointment. Our auto shop serves vehicle owners in Henderson, NV, Las Vegas, NV, and North Las Vegas, NV.
