The days are getting hotter as summer is now in full swing! Be "vehicle-smart" and give a little extra attention to your vehicle's cooling system. A professional radiator service will help to protect your vehicle's motor from the high temperatures of summer. To avoid overheating or other problems related to the cooling system, take care of a small radiator repair before it gets bigger.

It's easy! Just follow these four tips for a cooler summer:

  1. Check the Coolant Level at least once a month:  Also, make sure that the reserve tank or overflow tank fluid levels are where they should be. Ask your auto mechanic for help with correct antifreeze coolant mix.
  2. Check Caps and Hoses on the radiator tank and the reserve tank: Look for cracks or other damage and replace the cap immediately if damaged. Also, inspect all of the hoses and tubes that lead to the water pump, thermostat and reserve tank for cracks or cuts that may result in antifreeze leaks. Replace Hoses will get dry and brittle with age so it's a good idea to replace them about every three to four years.
  3. Check the Radiator and Overflow Tanks visually every few months: Small pinholes and punctures can be easily repaired. However, iff left unattended, they can become bigger cracks or holes that may be more difficult to repair.
  4. Radiator Flush (drain and refill with fresh coolant and water): Because dirt and contaminants have a tendency to build up and antifreeze can become acidic and lose its effectiveness, have your radiator flushed at least once a year in colder climates, or at least every 18 months to two years in warmer climates. This will remove dirt, contaminants and other metal particles that restrict the flow of the antifreeze coolant mixture.
