Even though the calendar says it is still winter, it isn’t too early to schedule an inspection of your auto air conditioning. Temperatures will soon be warming up and you want to make sure your auto air conditioning is ready to face summer’s hot days. Don’t wait until it stops working altogether. Sometimes, all it may need is fresh coolant added to the radiator.

How often should you get your car AC serviced, you ask? Many certified AC repair technicians recommend an inspection and service at least twice a year—you guessed it—fall and spring. Even once a year is beneficial, improving fuel efficiency and providing you with a cool and comfortable ride during summer’s high temperatures.

There are several problems that could cause your car’s air conditioner to not function properly, such as:

  • The engine’s hot temperatures
  • Road debris
  • Dirt
  • Vibrations
  • Quick stops
  • Running over an obstacle in the road or hitting a curb
  • The condenser is blocked
  • The fan breaks
  • Faulty electrical connections

The compressor needs a high-enough pressure to continuously cycle the refrigerant through the system, cooling it down. However, any of the conditions listed above can result in loose connections and cracks allowing the refrigerant to leak out. Or, the system can become clogged or blocked, allowing the refrigerant to decompress.
