The condition of their car’s alignment is not what most people think about when they jump in their car and start down the road. A little wobble here and there doesn’t seem too important. However, a car out of alignment compromises its driving safety. When it comes to your car, “It’s better to be safe than sorry!” So each time you have your vehicle into the shop for a service, such as an oil change or tire rotation, ask your mechanic to check the car alignment.

Here are some situations that can result in losing the correct car alignment:

  1. Poor road condition.  Traveling over rough terrain, hitting a pothole or a curb, or going too fast over a speed bump.
  2. New tires.  A new set of tires may require a different alignment than your old tires.
  3. Worn shocks.  Shocks and struts will wear out faster than normal when your car is out of alignment.
  4. After-market modifications.  Lifting the height or adjusting the suspension on your vehicle will throw off the alignment.
  5. Auto accident. No matter whether a minor fender-bender or a major crash, it can throw off your car alignment.

Take a minute and think about the condition of your vehicle as you drive down the road:

  • Are you able to control the steering, or is your car drifting all over the road?
  • Do your tires have a good grip on the road when you corner?
  • Are you able to gain speed as you accelerate?

Tip to Remember:  If you are starting to notice steering problems and difficulty controlling your vehicle, or if you notice the tread on your tires is wearing unevenly, schedule a car alignment service as soon as possible.
