Not only should you ask questions, but the mechanic should also ask you a few questions to gather diagnostic information and obtain your authorization for the work to be done. Then, be available during the day to take a phone call from the auto shop to discuss any unexpected issues that may arise. Your mechanic should get approval from you before proceeding with any work that was not discussed and agreed upon earlier.
