So, it's below zero outside and you have to head to work. You hop in your car, prepared for the day, turn the key and absolutely nothing happens. We all know this is a stressful scenario but did you know there are ways to prevent this from happening. Taking care of your car is an important task and this article is prepared to help you keep your vehicle running smoothly.

So, your car doesn't start but you hear a faint click. Starters in vehicles are responsible for engaging the engine and starting your vehicle. If starters & alternators are bad then you'll most likely hear a faint click when turning the key and absolutely no other response.

Mechanics 101: If you are unsure if the issue is the starter or battery, check your lights and other electrical devices. If they work then it is most likely the starter. If they are as dead as a doorknob then the car's battery is most likely the issue.

Do you want to know how long do Alternators last?

If you hear your vehicle struggle to start, your alternator may be giving up. So, how long do alternators last? Most mechanics will give you a ballpark of between 40,000 and 100,000 miles. It really all depends on the type of vehicle you're driving. The car may drive for a while with a bad alternator but understand that the alternator is responsible for charging the battery and keeping all electrical components in your vehicle operational.

Whenever you're in panic mode because your car doesn't start, just pay attention to the sounds and actions of your vehicle when turning the key. Look for signs of reduced power (battery) or a struggled start (alternator). If these things happen; bring your vehicle into your auto shop for service.

Does your vehicle have starting problems?  Contact our ASE-certified technicians at Rebel Automotive for more information about starters and alternators and to schedule an appointment.  Our auto shop serves vehicle owners in Henderson, NV, Las Vegas, NV, and North Las Vegas, NV.
